Frequently asked
questions

How do I join a B.D.B.

basketball team?

B.D.B. has open tryouts for all of our teams in February and March of each year. Registration for tryouts will open in January. All players that wish to try out for a team MUST register online and pay the nominal registration fee. Players should attend each tryout session so the coach can get a reasonable amount of time to perform his/her evaluation.

What is AAU basketball?

AAU stands for the Amateur Athletic Union. AAU is a sanctioning body that sanctions regional and national events all around the United States. AAU is split into different regions. B.D.B. competes in the Potomac Valley region of AAU (PVAAU). PVAAU is constituted of programs in Montgomery County and Prince George’s County Maryland, Washington, DC, City of Alexandria and Arlington and Fairfax County, Virginia. Teams play in regional events to qualify for AAU Nationals tournaments in either Division 1, 2 or 3. Teams that play Division 1 AAU are the most competitive youth basketball teams in the United States. Our Girls teams compete in Division 1 AAU and our Boys teams compete in both Division 1 and Division 2 generally.

What is the time frame

for a typical AAU season?

All of our teams have open tryouts in February/March of each year. The AAU main season runs from March through July (when AAU Nationals and other summer showcase events take place). Teams will generally play anywhere from 8-12 tournaments during that time period. Some teams may play in a summer league. The coach of each team sets the team’s schedule. Some of our teams will choose to play year round, playing in the Fall and Winter seasons as well. This is handled by the coach on a team by team basis. If a team plays in the Fall and/or Winter there will be some additional costs.

What are the typical costs to participate on a B.D.B. team?

The costs to take part on a B.D.B. team will vary depending on whether the team is Silver or Blue, and on the age grouping. All Players need to purchase the uniform kit for that team for the Spring/Summer season. The costs for the uniform kit are approximately $250-300 and should last for at least two seasons. Costs for B.D.B. elementary and middle school age teams vary depending on tournament costs and facility costs. High School age teams vary depending on tournament costs and facility costs. Once a player accepts a spot on a team and pays the fees, there are no refunds of fees

Are there scholarships available for families that cannot afford
